Cette statuette "bateba" est probablement une statuette "divinatoire", bien qu'elle paraisse un peu grande par rapport à la taille moyenne de celles-ci (qui font de 12 à 25 cm de hauteur, en général).

Quant à la forme en Y,en voci une interprétation: "According to François Warin, the most powerful of all Lobi figures are those with outstretched arms. The ti bala or dangerous persons with hands held high, protect against witch and sorcerers. When small, these sculptures are kept in niches in the wall of Lobi houses. The patina is a result of constant handling and the smoke from the cooking fires inside the soukhala ; fires that keep the roof dry and smoke that inhibits mosquitoes.(...) The raised arms mimic the gesture made by women during Lobi funeral dances" (page 23, in "Adventures with Lobi" an ABC, Michael Pennie,).
